Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a few of the most frequently asked questions regarding the Rapid City Youth Soccer League. If you have a question not covered here, or would like additional information, please email our office at firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I register my child?
You can register online by clicking the "Register" link to the upper right, or you can download and print the registration form here and mail it to us. You can also stop by the RCYSL office to register.
Can I still register my child if it is after the deadline?
After the deadline we cannot guarantee placement on a team. If the registration deadline has passed, please check our home page to see if we still have openings in that age division or call the office to find out.
How do I determine in which age division my child belongs?
Please consult the Age Divsion Matrix.
What equipment does my child need to play soccer?
All players need to have shin guards and soccer socks to cover. U6-U8 players need a size 3 ball, U10-U12 players need a size 4 ball, and U14-U19 players need a size 5 ball. Make sure that your child has enough water for practices and games. While soccer cleats are recommended, regular tennis shoes can be worn if they are considered “safe” by the referee.
When do the soccer seasons run?
The soccer “year” runs from fall to the following summer. The fall season is played from the end of August through mid-October. The indoor season runs from November through mid-December. Indoor tournaments are played from December through March. Spring soccer is played April through the first part of June.
What are the differences between recreational soccer and challenge/academy soccer?
In RCYSL challenge/academy soccer we focus more on developing skills. It is for the player that wants more soccer, and more competitive soccer. Learn more about RCYSL challenge/academy soccer here.
Does it cost less to play challenge/academy than it does club?
Yes. When we compared the most up-to-date registration forms of both our league and club, all RCYSL divisions were less expensive than club.
